Botanical science is the technology that lets companies use natural botanical ingredients like melatonin, terpineol, humulene and CBD in supplements, foods and skincare products. Our doctors and chemists rely on botanical science to formulate the mix of ingredients that go into our products, and then we meticulously lab test them to ensure only those ingredients in the precise amounts specified may be found in each capsule, tincture and topical.
There are thousands of years of human experience that go into each of our formulations, but let’s be real. While some botanicals (like ginkgo and garlic) are probably well known by you, others like CBD are newer. That’s why we provide links to the most scientific articles about all these ingredients so you can research for yourself.
We’ve tried a lot of things, and in our opinion, natural botanical remedies aren’t just a way of life for a few people. They’re the best way of life for most of us.
A note about CBD.
We’re not allowed to make claims for CBD. And we know there’s a great deal of confusion about CBD, THC, hemp, and where you can get reliable information. Please see our blog for resources to make your own decision and below for more specifics about CBD. But here’s what we know for sure about CBD:
- Of Americans 50-64 years of age, 20% use CBD, and 62% use it to treat a medical condition. 40% use CBD for pain, 20% for anxiety, 11% for sleep and 8% for arthritis (source: Gallup, July 2019)
- CBD will not get you “high.”
- CBD is well tolerated in humans and maintains a good safety profile. To date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD. (Source: World Health Organization):
- Neither abuse nor dependence has been demonstrated
- There have been no overdoses of CBD reported.
- Side effects can include dry mouth, hunger, red eyes, and sleepiness.
- Counterfeits are a concern: misrepresentations in labeling have been reported. Our products are real and labeled correctly – guaranteed.
Here are some of the ingredients we use in our products to help you understand why we believe they work so well for us.
We use botanicals, nutraceuticals, nootropics and CBD in our products:
Botanicals are plants or plant parts valued for their medicinal or therapeutic properties, flavor, and/or scent. They come from herbs, flowers and seeds. They have been used for centuries and are the foundation for nearly half of prescription drugs used today. Products made from botanicals that are used to maintain or improve health may be called herbal products, botanical products, or phytomedicines. Botanicals can have many healing and anti-aging properties.
Nutraceuticals are supplements derived from food sources that are thought to provide health benefits. A nutraceutical product may be defined as a substance, which has physiological benefit or provides protection against chronic disease. They include things like minerals, vitamins, herbal products like garlic, ginger, ginseng, turmeric, dietary enzymes, probiotics and proteins. Nutraceuticals may be used to improve health, delay the aging process, prevent chronic diseases, increase life expectancy, or support the structure or function of the body. These ingredients are not tested or regulated like pharmaceutical drugs.
Nootropics are supplements that may improve cognitive function. They are a class of substances that can boost brain performance. They are sometimes called cognition enhancers or memory enhancing substances. Some examples would be Gingko Biloba, Bacopa Monnieri, Ginseng and Caffeine. They do not treat diseases but may have some effects on thinking, memory, or other mental functions.
CBD is used in most of our Wisdom Essentials products. Our CBD is all natural, made from hemp, and blended with reliably-sourced ingredients. We use no harsh chemicals and our products are non-GMO, sustainably grown with non-GMO farming practices, and manufactured in the USA according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) throughout the supply chain. CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound found in cannabis plants, specifically in the leaves of the hemp plant. It’s been shown to to support cellular and molecular health, and thus promote wellness. It does this by interacting with the receptors in your body’s endocannabinoid system, which supports many of your body’s physical processes. Cannabinoids are compounds produced by both the human body (endocannabinoids) and the hemp or cannabis plant (phytocannabinoids). There are many different phytocannabinoids, but two of the most abundant are CBD and THC. Research suggests that CBD may strengthen the endocannabinoid system, allowing your body to correct irregularities. The endocannabinoid system interacts with the central nervous system to ease discomfort and relieve anxiety. Studies show that taking CBD may reduce stress, produce a sense of calm, and can possibly help people focus. It may also reduce inflammation and support healthy sleep cycles. CBD is considered safe, and unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects. But if you’re pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition, or are taking medicine, talk to your doctor about CBD.

Myrcene is an essential oil that helps CBD take effect more quickly, making it an ideal ingredient in Wisdom Essentials’ DREAM Formula, which also includes Melatonin, and Terpineol, which has been shown to have a calming and relaxing effect.
Wisdom Essentials’ FOCUS Formula is designed to help alleviate brain fog (problems with focus, memory, logic and problem solving). It does this with Humulene, an anti-inflammatory; Pinene, which protects the molecules that improve memory; and Limonene, which research indicates increases attention and mental focus.
Our CALM tincture is custom formulated and based on Terpinolene, an aromatic oil with a lemon-pine aroma. It contains a blend of other botanicals like Limonene which is an essential oil found in citrus fruit peels and has many healing qualities and has shown anti-stress properties, Linalool which has been used since ancient times to reduce stress and combat depression, Geraniol which is found in essential oils and is great for relaxation, and CBD.
Our CALM Gum Drops are made with CBD & Limolene, Terpinolene and Linalool. They are naturally fruit flavored and we used organic Tapioca Syrup and a Pectin Blend instead of gelatin so these gum drops are vegan!
We tested these for over a year to get the taste and consistency right and we think they taste great! This product can help you find a greater sense of balance and well-being.
